The Symantec API Detection for Developer Apps Appliance enables you to detect Symantec Data Loss Prevention policy violations in on-premises applications that your organization uses. By connecting your on-premises applications to the API Detection for Developer Apps Appliance using a REST client that you develop, you can detect sensitive data in many types of messages or files using the following policy detection technologies:
- Described Content Matching (DCM), to detect message content and context, such as keywords, sender and recipient patterns, file properties, and more
- Exact Data Matching (EDM), to detect personally identifiable information
- Exact Match Data Identifiers (EMDI), to detect structured data, especially personally-identifiable information. EMDI provides better matching performance and greater memory efficiency than EDM.
- Indexed Document Matching (IDM), to detect exact files and file contents, as well as derivative content
- Vector Machine Learning (VML), to detect similar document content
- Form Recognition, to detect images of forms containing sensitive information
- OCR Sensitive Image Recognition, to extract text from images (scanned documents, screen shots, pictures, and so on) and from PDFs, enabling you to use new or preexisting text-based detection rules on this content
- Data Identifiers, to match content using precise patterns and data validators
- File Type Detection, to detect file types according to their binary signature
You must create REST clients for the applications you want to connect using the API Detection for Developer Apps Appliance. For information about the Detection REST API, see the Detection REST API reference guide: http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC10653.
