Altiris® Inventory Solution® for UNIX and Linux is a comprehensive, policy-based, hardware and software inventory management solution that reduces the costs of deploying and managing both UNIX and Linux computers. The advantage of using this robust management tool is that it works where Windows PCs, UNIX, and Linux computers are in the same environment.

You can download released versions of Altiris products from http://www.altiris.com/Download.aspx. Inventory Solution 6.2 for UNIX and Linux is part of Altiris® Inventory Solution® for servers 6.0.
You can download beta versions of Altiris products from http://beta.altiris.com.
Inventory Solution for UNIX and Linux can be installed or upgraded from the Solution Center.
To install or upgrade Inventory Solution for UNIX and Linux from the Solution Center:
1. From the Altiris Console, click the Configuration tab.
2. In the left pane, select Configuration > Upgrade/Install Additional Solutions.
3. In the Available Solutions tab, click Solutions.
4. Click Altiris Inventory Solution for UNIX and Linux and follow the on-screen instructions.
No special steps required for new installation.
No upgrade issues in this release.
No special steps required for upgrade.
Improvements for this release include the following new features:
1. New supported platforms
The following platforms are supported by this version (new platforms are in bold):
- HP-UX 11, 11i, 11i v2, 11i v2 (IA-64)
- IBM AIX 4.3.3, 5.1, 5.2, 5.3
- Solaris 7, 8, 9, 10, 10 (x86), 10 (x86_64)
- Red Hat Linux 7.2, 7.3, 8, 9
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1, 3, 4, 3 (x86_64), 4 (x86_64)
- SUSE Linux 8.0, 8.1, 8.2, 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, 10.0, 10.1, 10.0 (x86_64), 10.1 (x86_64)
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8, 9, 10, 9 (x86_64), 10 (x86_64)
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10, 10 (x86_64)
- VMware ESX Server 2.5, 3.0
2. Linux computers running VMware Server software identified
Linux computers running VMware GSX Server 3.2 or VMware Server 1.0 are now identified and added to appropriate computer collections.
3. VMware host and guest operating system information reported
The Inventory Solution for UNIX and Linux now reports basic VMware ESX/GSX Server configuration data that allows you to determine which operating systems are running in a VMware virtual machine and associate the guest operating system with the parent host operating system.
4. Full inventory task now resends all data
The Run Full Inventory Weekly task used to send only the data that had changed from the previous scan to the Notification Server. In this release, Run Full Inventory Weekly task always resends all collected data. This helps avoid inventory data loss, such as if a resource and all its inventory data was deleted from the Notification Database.
5. Licensing model changed
Inventory Solution for UNIX and Linux is now using the Inventory Solution for Clients license. If you do not have the Inventory Solution for Clients license installed, contact the sales support center to renew your current Inventory Solution for UNIX and Linux license.
The following issues were resolved in this release. For additional information regarding a fixed issue, click the Article ID link.
1. SoftwareScan does not scan root ("/") directory
Despite that the root directory ("/") is added to the list of directories to scan on the Inventory Configuration page, the SoftwareScan agent does not scan the directory.
2. Fibre channel adapters not reported by Hardware Inventory
Fibre channel adapters are not reported by Hardware Scan on HP-UX computers.
3. "Low disk space" notification policy does not work with SQL 2005
An error is thrown when the "Low disk space" notification policy is executed on the Notification Server, which is configured to work with SQL 2005.
4. AIX computer serial number is reported incorrectly
The AIX computer serial number is not reported in the same format as the real equipment number.
5. Disk size of some HDDs is not detected on AIX 5.2 computers
The AIX 5.2 disk size of some HDDs is not reported by Hardware Scan.

1. Disk report shows wrong information
The Inventory Solution for UNIX and Linux Disk report shows the wrong amount of inodes and Free inodes as '-1'. This error may occur on computers with certain file systems like reiserfs or running SUSE based Linux where "total inodes" and "free inodes" are not applicable.
2. Problems installing on Notification Server when Terminal Server installed
Inventory Solution for UNIX and Linux installation may fail when you are hosting Notification Server on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server with Microsoft Terminal Server installed. Right after installation, Terminal Server in running in application mode and during setup, deferred Custom Action is run under SYSTEM account. If the solution installation has failed, please reconfigure Terminal Server to run in administration mode and repeat the solution installation.
3. Processor speed not reported on IBM AIX 4.3 computers
Due to limitations of the “lsattr” command on IBM AIX 4.3, Inventory Solution does not report the processor speed for computers running the IBM AIX 4.3 operating system.
4. Upgrade from 6.0 SP3 does not migrate custom inventory files
The location of the Inventory Agent Package on the Notification Server has changed in this release. If you upgrade from Inventory Solution 6.0 SP3 for UNIX and Linux, the custom inventory files stored in the Inventory Agent Package directory are not migrated automatically to the new location. Before upgrade, backup your custom inventory files to a temporary folder, and copy them into the new location after the upgrade. If you are upgrading from a previous version 6.0 SP4 to version 6.2, this issue is not applicable.
