If you are a customer with a current maintenance and support agreement for a previous version of Symantec Endpoint Protection as of 28 October 2016, you are an eligible upgrade customer. You are entitled to upgrade your supported licenses to SEP version 14.x free of charge.
If you are an eligible upgrade customer, you can get your SEP 14.x serial number in the following ways:
Wait for the SEP 14.x version upgrade (VU) notification letter in email.
The notification provides your new serial number and the release details for SEP 14.x.
Contact Customer Care organization by phone or email.
Request a VU notification from the MySymantec.com website.
Use this option only if you are an authorized customer and you have registered a previous SEP 12.1.x version with your MySymantec.com account.
If you are not the license owner, you must contact Customer Care. Request a license reassignment request from the old Licensing Portal account to the correct one.
Symantec Protection Suite Enterprise Edition (SPS EE) 5.0 users can only use this option after the official release date has passed, which was 7 November 2016.
To request a VU notification
In a web browser, go to MySymantec.com, click Enterprise Security (Symantec) Licensing, and on the SymAccount page, log on.
My Symantec replaces the previous Symantec Licensing Portal.
On the Symantec Licensing Portal page, click Version Upgrade.
On the Get a License Key for an Upgrade page, click I don't have an Upgrade Notification ID.
Type your customer number and order number, and click Submit.

The version upgrade (VU) notifications have been sent to customer's email addresses. These email addresses were compiled from a list of both the Technical Support and the "ship to" contact(s) email addresses in the Symantec database. The "ship to" contact information appears in the list if the customer's email address is either missing or incorrect.
Symantec delivered all VU notification emails in November 2016. If you did not receive your SEP 14.x VU notification, contact either Customer Care or go to the MySymantec.com website.

The VU notification includes the serial number (S/N) and instructions to download the software from FileConnect/FlexNet: https://fileconnect.symantec.com/

No. Version 12.1.x serial numbers only let you download Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 software. You can only use the version 14.x serial numbers to download the Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.x software.
Symantec Protection Suite Enterprise Edition (SPS EE) 4.1 and earlier cannot be updated with the Symantec Endpoint Protection 14 software. Instead, eligible customers who upgrade from SPS EE 4.1 to version 5.0 can download Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.
SPS EE 5.0 officially released on Monday, 7 November 2016. You can either contact Customer Care or access MySymantec.com.
It is Symantec's standard policy to EOL older versions of a product when a new version is released. On April 3, 2017, Symantec announced the End of Life for Endpoint Protection 12.1.x. However, Symantec will continue to publish content and signature updates until the "End of Extended Support Life" date on April 3, 2021.
