Issue/Introduction

Resolution

Whenever SMSMSE quarantines an item, the original recipient of the message receives a copy of the message with the content stripped out and replacement text added. This replacement text email can now be disabled with SMSMSE 7.5.5 and later if desired.

To disable sending of replacement text notification to original recipients

  1. On the Exchange server with SMSMSE installed, open the registry editor (Start -> Run, regedit).
  2. For version 7.5.6 and earlier: Navigate to HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Symantec\SMSMSE\<version>\Server\Components\SMTP
For version 7.9.0 and later: Navigate to HKLM\Software\Symantec\SMSMSE\<version>\Server\Components\SMTP
  3. Create a new DWORD value called DoNotSendEMailToRecipient (case sensitive).
  4. Set the value to 1.
  5. Restart the Microsoft Exchange Transport service.

After taking these steps, SMSMSE will no longer allow the replacement text to continue to the original recipient, and instead will Quarantine messages and prevent delivery of the original email to the original recipient.
