If you encounter a problem with your Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) database, Symantec Support may ask you to run the Database Validation tool to assist in diagnosing the problem. The batch file, dbvalidator.bat, is located by default in:
64bit OS- \Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tools folder.
32bit OS- \Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tools folder.
This tool creates a log file that is called dbvalidator.log, which is placed in the Program Files(x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\logs folder.
When the tool finds a broken link to a database object, it inserts the XML content that is related to that object into the log file.
To Run The Database Validation Tool from a Command Window:
- Open a command prompt:
- Start > Run > Type: "cmd" (without quotes) > click OK
- Change the directory to:
(64bit OS)- CD\Program Files(x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tools
- (32bit OS)- CD\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tools
- Type the following command to run the batch file:
To Run the DBvalidator from Windows:
- Navigate to:
- (64bit OS)- \Program Files(x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tools
- (32bit OS)- \Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Tools
- Right Click the dbvalidator.bat file and select "Run as Administrator"
- When finished the DBvalidator command prompt will close automatically
DBvalidator Log Results Location
- Locate the dbvalidator.log in
- (64bit OS)
\Program Files(x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\logs
- (32bit OS) \Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\tomcat\logs
- Open the dbvalidator log in Notepad and scroll to the very bottom
- One of the following messages will be displayed at the command prompt to tell you whether the database has passed or failed validation:
- a) If the database is valid, you see the following message:
Database validation passed.
b) If the database is invalid, you see the following message:
Database validation failed. Please check the log file for more details.
c) If an error occurs, you see the following message:
Some error occurred. Please check the log file for more details.
