Resolution

SQL Analysis Services and SQL Reporting Services are installed and configured on the SQL Server. SQL security may also need to be configured, which is also performed (for the most part) on the SQL Server. Note: If SQL Analysis Services and SQL Reporting Services are not installed or configured correctly, or SQL security fails to work, IT Analytics will not be able to be configured or work. For assistance with installing, configuring, or troubleshooting the Microsoft SQL Server, please refer to your database administrator or contact Microsoft directly for technical support. As a convenience, Symantec has provided several courtesy articles, below, on setting up the Reporting Services and SQL security:

How to configure IT Analytics 6.0 for Notification Server 6 and Symantec Management Platform 7

  1. For Notification Server 6, in the Altiris Console, click on the Configuration tab (or click on the View > Configuration menu for the Altiris Console 6.5) > Solution Settings > IT Analytics > Configuration > Connection Settings. For Symantec Management Platform 7, click on the Home button > IT Analytics. Then click on Settings > Configuration.
  2. Edit the Analysis Server Name field and type the SQL Analysis Services server name and if applicable, the SQL instance, in it. Note: Do not use a network alias, use the actual server name. The FQDN may be necessary as well, depending on the network configuration.
  3. Click on the Verify Connection button. If the server cannot be found, ensure that the correct server name and instance (if applicable) are entered and can be connected to on the network from the Notification Server/Symantec Management Platform server.
  4. Edit the Analysis Server Database field. If no previous database was found, select Create new database and then give it a name, such as IT Analytics. If a previous database exists, select Use existing database and then select the database from the drop down list.
  5. Click on the Save Database Settings button.
  6. Edit the Report Server Virtual Directory URL field and type the SQL Reporting Services server virtual directory URL in it, such as http://<server_name>:8080/ReportServer/. Note: The name of the Report Server should already have been created and configured on the SQL Server. Use this name when setting up the virtual directory URL. Also, do not use a network alias, use the actual server name. The FQDN may be necessary as well, depending on the network configuration.
  7. Click on the Verify Connection button. If the server cannot be found, ensure that the correct server name and instance (if applicable) are entered and can be connected to on the network from the Notification Server/Symantec Management Platform server.
  8. Edit the Report Folder Name field. If no previous folder was found, select Create new report folder and then give it a name, such as IT Analytics. If a previous report folder exists, select Use existing report folder and then select the report folder from the drop down list.
  9. Click on the Save Folder Settings button.
  10. If IT Analytics 7 is being configured, edit the Authentication Type field and configure the authentication type:

    a. Click on Windows Authentication if that method is used.
    b. Click on Stored Credentials if that method is used, and then enter the credentials in the Username and Password fields.
    c. Click on the Save Security Settings button.
    d. Security for reports can be configured under IT Analytics > Settings > Reports > Security tab. Note: To troubleshoot this, If the user encounters HTTP access errors, remove any report security, and use Stored Credentials for the SA account.
