The unmanaged computer boots from a network card and asks for a PXE server. The PXE server receives this request and compares the computer against its list of known computers. After the server determines that the computer is unknown it sends a preboot image to the computer. This preboot image is the image that you configured in the PXE Server Configuration page to respond to the unknown computers.
After the unknown computer receives the preboot PXE image, the pre-OS runs and requests a task server. Because the computer is unknown, it receives an initial deployment menu that contains a preconfigured job or task. According to the default job or the task set for the initial deployment, the task is scheduled on the client computers. It also specifies how long those tasks display on the new computer.
