Issue/Introduction

Symantec has implemented a change to the hard drive for products using the S200 and S400-based platform. Our vendor has indicated the Seagate 500GB SATA HDD ST9500620NS is moving to EOL status. Symantec is transitioning in a replacement 1TB HDD, Model # ST1000NX0353 to replace the EOL drive.

Effective Dates for Change to Hardware & Software Versions

Branding Change Description
Hardware Platforms PCN notification date: June 30th, 2017
  • Symantec will be introducing the new 1 TB HDD in January 2018, and transition to new drives is expected to be completed be end of 2018
    • Transition period is to allow customers time to upgrade to the software release that supports the new drives
Software Versions Content Analysis and Malware Analysis product software is not affected by the HDD change.
SGOS versions to support the 1TB HDD:
  • 6.5: 6.5.9.9
  • 6.6: 6.6.4.3
  • 6.7
Supported ASG OS versions to support the 1TB HDD:
  • 6.6.5.1
PacketShaper OS versions to support the 1TB HDD:
  • All versions of PacketShaper S-Series OS (except for mixed drive support: upgrade to 11.6.4.1)

Exceptions

  • ProxySG and ASG customers will not be able to downgrade their software versions if the 1TB drives are configured. Any downgrade will result in an RMA of the unit.
  • All PS OS versions are compatible with the new 1TB HDD. In rare cases where there is mixing of 1TB and 500GB HDD, the customer will need to upgrade to PS 11.6.4.1 or above. This is mainly for recovery of systems only. Note: PacketShaper S-Series OS with mixed HDD support is only applicable to PS-S400, since PS-S200 uses only one HDD.
  • Supported PS OS version for mixed HDDs on PS-S400 is 11.6.4.1.
     

Customer Actions
There is no impact on the usability of the product and your active support agreements.

Customers should not downgrade ProxySG or ASG systems that are configured with the 1 TB HDD.
