Why does the NSAgent cause a large amount of page faults throughout the day?
A page fault is what occurs when Windows swaps a 4K chunk of memory in from disk. The Agent causes a lot of page faults because it is constantly swapping itself out of memory to reduce the amount of memory it uses. This will not adversely affect performance of the computer. To change this value go to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Max Service Memory Usage
By default this is set to 4Meg. Increasing this will increase the amount of memory the agent uses, but will reduce the number of page faults.
On a normal machine - increasing the value to 140000 Hex, by putting a 1 in front of the number in the entry, only 4200 page faults occurred. The max memory usage was 9500kb compared to 400000 on the other machine.
