Can Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) or Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) scan a MS SQL database?
No, the Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition/Symantec Endpoint Protection scan engine cannot open MS SQL database files because they are in a proprietary file format. This behavior is working as designed by Microsoft.
You can, however, install Symantec AntiVirus or Symantect Endpoint Protection onto a MS SQL server to protect the operating environment and file system.
When you install Symantec AntiVirus/Symantec Endpoint Protection onto a MS SQL server, you may need to configure it to exclude the MS SQL database files from real-time (Auto-Protect) and manual or scheduled scans.
