LiveUpdate fails when run by Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM), with the following error in the LiveUpdate status.
LiveUpdate encountered one or more errors. Return code = 4
This error indicates that LiveUpdate was unable to connect to the intended LiveUpdate server. This can be caused by one of the following:
Internet access is being blocked by a proxy server. See the Related Articles section for steps to configure Liveupdate for use with a proxy.
Another instance of LiveUpdate was running during the installation of SEPM. This prevents Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 12.1 from updating the LiveUpdate product inventory settings with the new location for SEP 12.1 content.
SEPM is trying to connect to an internal LiveUpdate server and the URL supplied to LiveUpdate is not correct.
Enhanced Security is enabled in Internet Explorer.
A firewall that requires authentication to get to the Internet is used.
SEPM is no longer registered with LiveUpdate.
A Web filtering device is detecting and blocking certain items.
