During Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) startup, a pop up error message is displayed regarding Smc.exe and Faulting module spnet.dll. Symptoms There are error messages in the Windows Application Event Log with Event ID 1000 and 1004.
Faulting application smc.exe version 11.0.5002.301.
Faulting module spnet.dll.
Faulting address 0x0001b860.
A product issue involving the hash table for DNS host entries results in a crash of smc.exe.
This issue is resolved in Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 RU7 MP2. A fix is still being investigated for Endpoint Protection 12.1
