You want to use the Ghost Console to install the Ghost Client on the client computers. When you examine the network in the Remote Client Install dialog box, you do not see one or more of the client computers.
The feature Remote Client Install automatically detects client computers that have NetBIOS installed.
If NetBIOS has been disabled at the client computer, Remote Client Install cannot display that computer. To install the Ghost Client remotely, either enable NetBIOS on the client computer, or run the Ghost Client install from a network login script.
Note: The Remote Client Install can remotely install the Ghost Client only to those computers that meet one of the following criteria:
- The computer is running Windows NT, Windows 2000, or Windows XP, and is a member of a domain.
- The computer is running Windows NT or Windows 2000 and is a member of a workgroup.
Other causes and solutions
- If the client computers are on a different subnet than the subnet that the Ghost Console computer is on, enable multicasting on the routers and switches that are between the Ghost Console computer and the client computers or add a WINS proxy server to the same subnet as the client computers.
- If the client computers run Windows NT 4.0 and are on a different subnet than the Ghost Console computer and the WINS proxy server, then ensure that a WINS proxy server exists on the same subnet as the client computers.
If the Ghost Client is already installed, and the Machine Groups folder in Ghost Console does not display the client computer, see the document Cannot see Ghost Client computer in Machine Groups in Ghost Console.
