This article details the compatibility between Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) for Mac and OS X.
Currently, Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.x only supports Mac OS X 10.5 - macOS 10.12. Specific product versions have specific system requirements.

The Symantec Endpoint Protection client for Mac is managed only by Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) on a Windows server.

Changes to Gatekeeper in Mac OS X 10.9.5, which affect the installer file, are addressed with 12.1.5.
The Mac client did not update for the following releases:
Mac OS X 64-bit mode is supported.
Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.x does not support PowerPC processors.
As of Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2, case-sensitive formatted volumes are supported.
You should remove legacy Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) for Mac installations before installing Symantec Endpoint Protection for Mac 12.1.x.
Symantec Endpoint Protection .Cloud Mac client currently does not support OS X 10.11 (El Capitan).
Intrusion Prevention (IPS)
Intrusion prevention is available in Symantec Endpoint Protection for Mac 12.1.4 and later.
Device Control is available as of Symantec Endpoint Protection for Mac 14. You can only enable Device Control for managed clients.
There is currently no firewall in Symantec Endpoint Protection for Mac. Currently, the only Symantec firewall for Mac is in the consumer product line (e.g. Norton Internet Security and Norton Personal Firewall).
