This article describes what a user should do if they get the following error when attempting to view a message on their BlackBerry:
Unable to decode, an unsupported encoding algorithm was used to encrypt this message.
|Note: The article applies to users running the PGP Support Package for BlackBerry on a handheld with BlackBerry Device Software 4.1 or higher in a BES 4.0.2 or BES 4.1 environment.|
Please use the following steps to resolve the issue.
The first thing to check if you get this message is whether or not the entire message was in fact downloaded. Click the track wheel and if the More All option is available, select it. If the message still does not decrypt, go to step 2.
Check your key properties and encoding used. If the message was encrypted with cipher, compression and/or encoding that is not supported on the handheld, you may need to view the message on your desktop. With PGP Desktop, you can view your key properties by right-clicking on the key and selecting Key Properties. Make sure that the ciphers and compression listed match those supported cipher and compresssion. Also, ensure that the keyserver property is set to None.
Mitigate this problem for future messages by modifying the attributes of your key to match what is supported by the BlackBerry.
