When installing a Volume Manager 2.7 for Windows 2000 upgrade, the installation checks for the existence of a previous version. If not found, the installation will fail with the error displayed above. This situation arises when upgrading the operating system from Windows NT to Windows 2000. Volume Manager for Windows NT does not run on Windows 2000 and must be removed prior to or immediately following the upgrade. The situation may also arise in which an upgrade from Volume Manager 2.5 for Windows 2000 has to be performed on a system from which Volume Manager has been removed.
To facilitate upgrades on systems that have no previous installation of Volume Manager, an upgrade utility
VMUpgrade, is available on the Volume Manager 2.7 for Windows 2000 CD in the
VMUpgrade_Utility subdirectory or for download at the end of this document. Copy the file
VMUpgrade.exe to your system and run it. The Volume Manager 2.7 License upgrade box will be displayed (Figure 1).
