Issue/Introduction

When clicking on the "Verify Connection" button in the IT Analytics Configuration for the Report Server Virtual Directory URL, the error "Error Saving Reporting Server: Virtual Directory specified is incorrect." occurs.

Error Saving Reporting Server: Virtual Directory specified is incorrect.

Cause

The virtual directory specified is invalid or the SQL Server Report Server is not working.

Resolution

Note: IT Analytics requires that Microsoft SQL Server Report Server (SSRS) is installed on the SQL Server and its SQL Server Reporting Services service is running. If neither are true, the user must install SSRS first (which should set the the SQL Server Reporting Services service to run automatically and start it), and then afterwards, go through the following instructions to configure it, before being able to configure IT Analytics' Report Server settings.

  1. On the SQL Server that manages the SSRS, click on the Windows Start button > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 > Configuration  Tools > Reporting Services Configuration Manager.
  2. Click on the Connect button, after making any necessary changes to the login settings if necessary.
  3. Click on Web Service URL.

    a. If a warning appears stating that the Report Server Web Service is not configured, ensure that all of its settings are correct and then click on the Apply button.
    b. Write down the Report Web Service URLs value. There should only be one, by default, which is http://<server-name>/ReportServer, where <server-name> is the name of the SQL Server.

  4. Click on Report Manager URL.
  5. If a warning appears stating that the Report Manager virtual directory name is not configured, ensure that all of its settings are correct and then click on the Apply button.
  6. Click on the Exit button.
  7. In a Symantec Management Platform Console, click on Settings > Notification Server > IT Analytics Settings
  8. Click on Configuration.
  9. Under the Reporting Server section, ensure that the value for Report Server Virtual Directory URL is the same value as step 3b.
  10. Click on the Verify Connection button. This should now be able to be verified.
  11. If the error "Error Saving Reporting Server:The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database." then occurs, refer to the following article:
