Issue/Introduction

After installing the Network Device Enrolment Service on a SCEP server, and configuring the registry for UseSinglePassword, the SCEP admin URL (http://localhost/certsrv/mscep_admin/) shows a 500 error:

In the Windows Event Viewer under Server Manager > Diagnostics > Event Viewer > Custom Views > Server Roles > Active Directory Certificate Services, the following error is found:

The Network Device Enrollment Service cannot be started (0x80070002). The system cannot find the file specified.

Cause

NDES was installed using one set of credentials, but configured to use a second set of credentials.  Those credentials do not have a profile configured on the SCEP server.

Resolution

Log into the server with the NDES Admin credentials and access the URL.  Doing this will allow the proper SCEP configuration to complete.
