Issue/Introduction

Package Server gets the following error: No package sources returned by server (-2147023728).

In the SMP Console, on the Site Server Settings>Site Servers, under Settings > Notification Server, the packages all show in the "Pending" status.

On the Package Server, in the Altiris Agent details on the Package Server tab, all the packages remain in Downloading or Pending state.

Environment

ITMS 7.x, 8.x
The Package Server is on a different site to the Notification Server.

Cause

The Package Server is in a site that does not contain the SMP Server and the Package Server is marked as a "constrained" Package Server in the site.

A "constrained" Package Server can only download packages from an "unconstrained" Package Server within the same site; as one does not exist in this case, the Package Server is unable to download packages from any site.

Resolution

In SMP Console > Settings > Notification Server > Site Server Settings > Site Servers, on the Package Server with the issue, make sure that the Package Server is not marked as "Constrained" if it is the only Package Server in the Site. Then update the configuration on the Package Server (to force a download of the changed policy to the Package Server).

Then on the Package Server, go to the Package Server tab, click the Refresh Packages and the Resend Package Status buttons. Packages should then start downloading.
