Software Management Solution

Issue/Introduction

In some environments, simply indicating the UNC in the console for the software library will not work. Another scenario is when the Application Identity (App ID) credential is changed, access denied messages are generated.

An error of "the specified UNC does not allow read/write access" is displayed after clicking the "Validate" button.

In addition, a similar error like the following may appear:

WebApi Controller failure.
Access to the path '\\SMP Name\softwarelibrary\GUID' is denied.

Resolution

1. Verify the credentials being used are the same as the Application Identity (AppID) used for the Symantec Management Platform (SMP) login. This is the same account that was used when the SMP was installed.
2. Check that the user logged in has the correct security permissions to be reading and modifying the Software library folder
Go to the Software Library folder that you created
Right click on the folder and go to properties
Go to the Security tab
Give the ID used for the SMP login Full control through the permissions prompt.
Apply the setting’s and click ok
3. Make sure the folder name for the software library is set to these same permissions under the share.
Go to the Software Library folder
Right click on the folder and go to properties
Go to the Sharing Tab
Give the ID used for the Symantec Management Platform (SMP) login Full control through the share prompt.
Apply the setting’s and click ok
It may be necessary to go to the Sharing tab, click Advanced Sharing..., then click Permissions and make sure that Full Control is enabled for the SMP AppID account and for the Agent Connectivity Credential as set in Global Agent Settings. This is found in the console under Settings > Agents/Plug-ins > Global Settings > Authentication tab.
