When you configure a Managed Software Delivery Policy to wake up the computers using the "Power on computers if necessary" option (WOL) the WOL packet will be sent to all computers and not just those targeted by the policy.
Process: AtrsHost (1312)
Source: Altiris.TaskManagement.ClientTask.BaseClientTask.CheckIsTaskComplete Description: BaseClientTask.CheckIsTaskComplete(): Task "WOL Compliance Task for Managed Delivery Policy <policy name and Guid>
The WOL being called by this option in the policy is a broadcast to all computers on the local subnet. If there are targeted computers not on the local subnet then the SMP server will use a WOL proxy on the remote subnet to broadcast the WOL packet to all computers on that remote subnet.
This is working as designed. However, the design is not optimal.
Until a fix is released you can use the Power Control WOL task as a work-around. The Power Control WOL task only runs on those clients it is targeted to run on.
Clear the check mark from, or do not check, the "Power on computer" option in the MSD policy.
Create a Power Control WOL task under Manage > Jobs and Tasks.
Schedule the Power Control task to run five to ten minutes before the MSD policy runs. This will give the computers time to boot up before the MSD policy runs.
Target the same computers in the Power Control task as are targeted in the MSD Policy.
