What kinds of information are stored about each managed Android device in the Symantec Management Platform (SMP)? Where is this information kept, and for how long?
Symantec Mobile Security 7.2 (SMS 7.2) stores information about its devices in several database tables. It also keeps archived log event data in .xml format for each device on the hard drive under C:\ProgramData\Symantec\MobileSecurity\EventArchives - this information can be retrieved and viewed in the Mobile Security Logs report.
Purging Android mobile device data
Over time, the Android device activity records accumulate on the server. You can purge the device data to improve the database performance and free up hard drive space. Purging the Android database information is enabled by default: this can be disabled by unchecking "Enable purging for Android devices."
The minimum time configurable is one month.
The purge is performed weekly.
You can enable, disable, and set the schedule for purging Android database records for device logs, events, and actions. You can also purge the devices that have been inactive or unenrolled beyond a chosen length of time.
Go to Home > Mobile Security > Settings > Android Purge Schedule to set the purge options.
- Purge log data will control how long the archived event log data is retained under C:\ProgramData\Symantec\MobileSecurity\EventArchives. In large environments, these logs can require several GB per month.
- Purge event data will delete Threat activity and Blocked website rows from the database.
- Purge action status will remove Sent Command rows from the database.
- Purge devices that have been inactive or unenrolled will remove all database information and archived logs on the disk about information about Android devices that have been deleted an unenrolled.
To immediately purge Android records that meet the purge settings, click Purge Now.
