Issue/Introduction

After installing Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) version 6.0, 6.5, or 7.0, Windows SidebySide error Event ID 33 appears in the Windows Application Log.

The error indicates that Activation Contact Generation failed for a program in the SMSMSE directory structure, named "TSTXTRACT.EXE".

Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\SMSMSE\7.0\Server\Verity\bin\tstxtract.exe".
Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.CRT,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.6195" could not be found.
Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

 

Cause

Missing or corrupt components in the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable.

 

Resolution

Download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update. 

To get and install the update, Go to the following Microsoft URL:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26347

Read the system requirements and installation instructions.

Be sure to use the file, named "vcredist_x86.EXE".
