After restoring a Windows 8 image the USB CD/DVD drive, USB HDD are not recognized on the BIOS boot sequence screen. Before restoration, those devices were recognized.
The Windows API GetFrimwareEnvironmentVariable () is not able to handle the Hex values of the Boot Option Number when the values are lower case. Due to the UEFI specification, Ghost needs to us capital characters in the Hex value for Boot Option variable (e.g. Boot000A). So the issue was caused because generateBootOrderVariableName returned Boot Option variables with lower-case characters.
This issue has been fixed for standalone use while in the WinPE 4.0 PreOS by using the new Ghost Boot Disk Creator tool. More information on the UEFI Ghost 2.5.1 solution can be found in the Knowledge Base (KB) document TECH223404
