The issue was found to be a corrupt Altiris Client Task Data Loader on one of the remote task servers. This was discovered when the dataloader for the task server in question was unloaded and the errors stopped occuring in the Notification Server log file.
To resolve the issue the remote Task Server in question was removed and reinstalled .
