All of your inbound and possibly outbound email messages fail. A message appears in your log similar to:
WARNING: This article is directed to firewall administrators or customers with similar technical knowledge. Customers who do not have firewall administration skills should not attempt to make available configuration changes as this could bring the firewall service down.
This problem occurs when non-RFC compliant email is sent through the firewall. To solve this problem, modify a line in the config.cf file to allow this type of email to pass.
To permit noncompliant mail through Symantec Enterprise Firewall 7.0x
- Stop the firewall using the command: net stop "symantec enterprise firewall and vpn"
- Locate the line in config.cf: #smtpd.rcpt_path_use_bracket=true
- Edit the line to read: smtpd.rcpt_path_use_bracket=false
- Restart the firewall using the command: net start "symantec enterprise firewall and vpn"
To permit noncompliant mail through Symantec Enterprise Firewall 8.0 or Symantec Gateway Security 5400 Series
- Connect to the Security Gateway Management Interface (SGMI)
- In the left pane, click System.
- In the right pane, on the Advanced tab, click Advanced Options.
- Click New Advanced Option.
This creates a new Advanced Option entry and highlights it for you.
- Click Properties.
- In the Properties dialog, in the Option Name box, type the following:
- On the Value tab, in the Value box, type false and then click Add.
- Click OK.
- In the right pane of the SGMI, click Apply.
- On the Action menu, click Activate Changes.
To permit noncompliant mail through Symantec Enterprise Firewall SGS 5400 and 5600 running 3.1
1. Login to the GUI for the SGS.
2. Under System select Administration.
3. On the right slect the tab for Advanced Options.
4. Click New to create a new advanced Option.
5. In the Advanced Option properties box for the Option Name type.
7. On the Value tab, in the Value box, type false and then click Add.
8. Click Ok.
9.Save and Activate the Changes
