You have a computer on which you installed Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange 5.x or 6.x and Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition (SAV) or Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP). You need to know how to configure LiveUpdate.
Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) will share virus definitions with Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition (SAV-CE) or Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 11 under the following circumstances:
- SMSMSE 6.0.8 or earlier on any platform.
- SMSMSE 6.0.9 and later on 32 bit platforms.
SMSMSE does not share definitions with SAV-CE/SEP in the following circumstances:
- Any version of SMSMSE with SEP 12
- SMSMSE 6.0.9 and later installed to a 64 bit system
If your server meets the conditions for sharing, you should disable automatic virus definition updates in SMSMSE and allow SAV-CE/SEP to retrieve the updates.
To disable SMSMSE from performing automatic definition updates
- In the left pane of the SMSMSE console, click Admin.
- In the middle pane, click LiveUpdate/Rapid Release Schedule.
- In the right pane, uncheck "Enable automatic virus definitions updates."
- Deploy changes.
When SAV-CE or SEP and SMSMSE are installed on the same server, you may also wish to read the article Configuring exclusions when Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange and either Symantec Endpoint Protection or Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition are installed together
When using SMSMSE 6.0.9 and later on a 64-bit platform, please see the following document: How to Share Virus Definitions Between Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) and Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) 6 on a 64 bit Operating System
-- Version 6.5.1 and later, have an entirely different folder structure for this, and in these instances there is still the option to use the LiveUpdate Administration utility.
