Attempt to open the Symantec Protection 5.1 console results in:
Error: “Symantec Protection 5.1 for SharePoint Servers connection failed. Please check that the ‘Symantec Protection 5.1 for SharePoint Servers’
service is started or contact your administrator” Code 5946
Verify if the Symantec Protection 5.1.2 for SharePoint Servers service is started.
If the service is started, refresh the Internet Explorer browser.
Identify if the Symantec Protection 5.1.2 for SharePoint Servers service is started under a Service Logon Account (specified during the installation) as opposed to default Local System Account.
Verify if the Service Logon Account has sufficient access rights as described in "Symantec™ Protection for SharePoint® Servers Implementation Guide" , chapter "About installing Symantec Protection for SharePoint Servers"
Verify if the account used to install the SPSS console is a member of Local Administrators group on which SharePoint server is installed and member of Local Administrators group on which Database server (SQL server) is installed, if SQL server is installed on separate server.
