Policies for Windows Mobile devices have been created in the Symantec Management Platform (SMP) and saved to a single .xml file. But when they are copied to the My Documents folder on a Windows Mobile device (or to C:\data\ on a Symbian device running the legacy Symantec Endpoint Protection Mobile Edition 6), the errors "Error in Install Config File!" (Windows Mobile) or "Register Error" (Symbian) are displayed.
Mobile Agent .xml File
Open the AgentInstallConfig.xml file to see if it does indeed contain the desired settings that were configured. A corrupt or blank .xml file will cause these errors. A sample, valid AgentInstallConfig.xml is as follows:

That file must be in .xml format on the device: oftentimes it is distributed to end users with a .txt extension and must be renamed back to .xml before being copied in.
This AgentInstallConfig.xml file will be automatically processed and deleted once copied into the correct location on the device.

- On Symbian devices: C:\data\
Ensure that it is being copied to the correct location and that no permissions issues are preventing Symantec software from accessing the file.
Note that some users have reported that their Mobile Agent cannot register after the file has been copied onto the device by Windows Explorer. The GUI reads "register Error" and "Never Updated" instead of "Healthy Connection." After the device was uncradled (disconnected from the desktop computer), it was able to communicate over the wireless network to the SMP (formerly known as the Altiris Notification Server) and register.
This article also applied to the legacy SEPME 6 product, which supported Symbian devices as well as Windows Mobiles. Symantec Mobile Security 7.2 (SMS 7.2) does not support Symbian devices.
