Installing Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client on macOS 10.12 "Sierra" or newer may fail with the following errors.
When performing a normal installation:
"Install Failed: Invalid Symantec Endpoint Protection Package Please make sure latest package is downloaded to /Users/[username]/Downloads"
When using the Installer's Tools menu->Create remote deployment package:
"Remote deployment package creation closing Error creating package. Refer to console log for details."
"It seems like something went wrong with the installation of the product"
Symantec Endpoint Protection
macOS 10.12 "Sierra" or newer
This may be caused by a macOS security feature called "App Translocation" which is applied to apps that have a com.apple.quarantine extended attribute. This quarantine attribute is typically given to a SEP installer package that has been downloaded from a web server. App Translocation prevents the installer from running from anywhere except the expected location (i.e./Users/[username]/Downloads)
Move the installer files to /Users/[username]/Downloads and run from there, or...
Remove the extended attributes from the installer files with command line "xattr -rc /path/to/file(s)" and re-run
