To secure ("wrap") iOS apps and enable iOS mobile device management (MDM) in Symantec Mobility: Suite, you add iOS-specific certificate/key pairs to your Mobility Suite instance. You obtain these certificate files from the Apple iOS provisioning portal (in the case of push notifications and MDM functions) or a qualified certificate vendor (in the case of the Distribution certificate). You import the certificate files to your local Mac computer with the Apple 'Keychain Access' application (Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access). The certificate files must be in .P12 format, and you can use Keychain Access to convert other formats to .P12.
You secure Exchange ActiveSync, VPN, and Wi-Fi for iOS devices with authentication certificates, which differ from app certificates.
The workflows in the linked How to articles require access to the Apple Developer Portal and your instance of Symantec Mobility: Suite. Most of the workflows have you perform actions at both locations during the same work session. If you are not familiar with the Apple licensing and app development processes and protocols, we strongly recommend that you take some time to review the Apple web pages linked in the About iOS certificates and Apple licensing policy topic, below.
Some of the following items are dependent upon others; the suggested order for creating and/or installing these items proceeds as follows:
Also known as a code-signing certificate. The certificate is needed if you:
Distribute the native iOS Work Hub.
Wrap (secure) apps
This certificate is provided to you by the person in your organization who manages your Apple Enterprise Account. Click the How to upload link for more information. This certificate establishes a chain of trust between the key owner (your company), the app code, and the end user (the device owner).
A Provisioning Profile is required for any distributed native app or Secure Web App, including the Work Hub (mobile device agent). An App ID and a Distribution Certificate are required to create a Mobile Provisioning Profile. The How to links to the left provide more information.
Required if you want to use the iOS mobile device management (MDM) features in Mobility Suite. The certificate is used to secure the relationship between the Mobility Suite server and the iOS device.
About iOS certificates and Apple licensing policy
Per Apple's licensing policy, apps that are available from the Apple App Store may not be distributed through any other means, including Mobility Suite. Mobility Suite performs checks prior to uploading an app to make sure that the .ipa file is valid for redistribution.
Make sure that you are compliant with the terms of the Apple License Agreement. Review the steps that must be completed and other information at:
