Drive Encryption

Issue/Introduction

Symantec Drive Encryption is used to encrypt the boot disk on a computer. In some circumstances, the display and keyboard input language may need to be changed at the BootGuard authentication screen. The display language is the language seen on the preboot screen. The keyboard language is the language of the keyboard being used. Setting the correct keyboard language enables SEE to correctly interpret keystrokes.

Symantec Drive Encryption (formerly PGP Whole Disk Encryption) gets these settings from your current system language settings at the time it is instrumented. These settings can be changed by following this guide.

Resolution

To change this setting, perform the following steps:

  1. Open command prompt
  2. Run one of the following command: cd "C:\Program Files\PGP Corporation\PGP Desktop\WinPE"
    • If the previous command was unsuccessful, run the following command: cd "C:\Program Files <x86>\PGP Corporation\PGP Desktop"
    • This command will put you in the folder with the pgpwde.exe application we will use to change the display and keyboard input languages
  3. Note the disk number of the boot disk by running the following command: pgpwde --enum
    • Be default, C: is the boot disk drive letter

    • This information can also be gathered by opening Disk Management and looking in the bottom half of the window to find the boot disk
    • We recognize the C: drive is the boot disk and find that C: is on Disk 0

  4. Note the language you want to change the display and keyboard input language to. These languages can be different.
    • The supported display languages are: English (en), French (fr), Spanish (es), Japanese (jp), and German (de)
