HOW TO INSTALL 7.6, 8.0, 8.1, 8.5, 8.6 (Pre Post RU2) Cumulative Pointfixes 

NOTE:   Prior to 8.5 POST RU2 cumulative PF, Symantec has recommend following the instructions listed below.  Starting with 8.5 POST RU2 v1, we will create individual documents. 

 

Installation steps to perform on the Notification Server

  1. Extract the PointFix to a directory that is NOT in the Altiris installation path (or any sub-folder within it.  E.g C:\Program Files\Altiris).
  2. Browse to the extracted directory and execute the PFInstaller.exe with a user that has administrative privileges.
  3. If UAC box is presented, accept UAC (User Account Control) prompt, select Install Files.
  4. PFinstaller will restart all necessary services, replace .net assembly files and place new MSIs on the notification server.  NOTE:  Installation details can be found in a log file named 'Log.txt' that will be created at the same location where PFinstaller is located.
  5. Note: An entry to the registry is made to '[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Altiris\Pointfixes\' when a rollup is installed
     
  6. Update X64 DS Plugin
    1. From within the management console click on 'Settings'
    2. Browse to 'agents/plugins' > 'Deployment' > 'Windows (x64)'
    3. Right click on the 'Deployment Plug-in for Windows (x64) - Upgrade' policy and select 'Clone'.   The new policy will be named 'Copy of Deployment Plug-in for Windows (x64) - Upgrade'
    4. Right click on the 'Copy of Deployment Plug-in for Windows (x64) - Upgrade' policy and select 'Enable'
    5. The new DS plugin will now be pushed out to the client systems
       
  7. Update X86 DS Plugin (only needed for x86 workstations)
    1. From within the management console click on 'Settings'
    2. Browse to 'agents/plugins' > 'Deployment' > 'Windows (x86)'
    3. Right click on the 'Deployment Plug-in for Windows (x86) - Upgrade' policy and select 'Clone'.   The new policy will be named 'Copy of Deployment Plug-in for Windows (x86) - Upgrade'
    4. Right click on the 'Copy of Deployment Plug-in for Windows (x86) - Upgrade' policy and select 'Enable'
    5. The new DS plugin will now be pushed out to the client systems
       
  8. Update X64 NBS/SBS Site Servers
    1. From within the management console click on 'Settings'
    2. Browse to 'Notification Server' > 'Site Server Settings' > 'Network Boot Service' > 'Advanced'
    3. Right click on the 'NBS Site Service Upgrade(x64)' and select 'Clone'.   The new policy will be named  'Copy of NBS Site Service Upgrade(x64)'
    4. Right click on the 'Copy of NBS Site Service Upgrade(x64)' policy and select 'Enable'
    5. The new NBS/SBS Site Server will now be pushed out to the appropriate site servers systems
       
  9. Update X86 NBS/SBS Site Servers (only needed for x86 workstations)
    1. From within the management console click on 'Settings'
    2. Browse to 'Notification Server' > 'Site Server Settings' > 'Network Boot Service' > 'Advanced'

  10. Update X64 Deployment Site Server Components Plugin
    1. From within the management console click on 'Settings'
    2. Browse to 'agents/plugins' > 'Deployment' > 'Windows (x64)'
    3. Right click on the 'Deployment Site Server Components (x64) - Upgrade' policy and select 'Clone'.   The new policy will be named 'Copy of Deployment Site Server Components (x64) - Upgrade'
    4. Right click on the 'Copy of Deployment Site Server Components (x64) - Upgrade' policy and select 'Enable'
    5. The new DS Task Server Handler will be installed on the site server
       
  11. Update X86 Deployment Site Server Components Plugin (only needed for x86 workstations)
    1. From within the management console click on 'Settings'
    2. Browse to 'agents/plugins' > 'Deployment' > 'Windows (x86)'
    3. Right click on the 'Deployment Site Server Components (x86) - Upgrade' policy and select 'Clone'.   The new policy will be named 'Copy of Deployment Site Server Components (x86) - Upgrade'
    4. Right click on the 'Copy of Deployment Site Server Components (x86) - Upgrade' policy and select 'Enable'
    5. The new DS Task Server Handler will be installed on the site server
       
  12. Update Deployment Package Server Components
    1. From within the management console click on 'Settings'
    2. Browse to 'agents/plugins' > 'Deployment' 
    3. Right click on the 'Deployment Package Server Components - Upgrade' policy and select 'Clone'.   The new policy will be named 'Copy of Deployment Package Server Components - Upgrade'
    4. Right click on the 'Copy Deployment Package Server Components - Upgrade' policy and select 'Enable'
    5. The new DS Package Server Components will be installed on the site server
       
  13. Recreate PXE and Automation folder preboots. (before starting this process, verify on at least one PS that the BDC.. and ABD... packages are updated)
    1. From within the NS console, click on 'Settings'
    2. Browse to 'Deployment' > 'Manage Preboot Configurations'
    3. Select a Preboot Configuration and click on 'Recreate Preboot Environment'
    4. Repeat for each Windows Preboot listed
  14. Upgrade Automation Folders X64 (only needed if automation folders are used in the environment)
    1. From within the management console click on 'Settings'
    2. Browse to 'agents/plugins' > 'Deployment' > 'Windows (x64)'
    3. Right click on the 'Deployment Automation Folder for Windows (x64)  - Upgrade' policy and select 'Clone'.   The new policy will be named 'Copy of Deployment Automation Folder for Windows (x64)'
    4. Right click on the 'Copy of Deployment Automation Folder for Windows (x64)' policy and select 'Enable'
    5. Automation folders will be installed on client systems
       
  15. Upgrade Automation Folders X86 (only needed if  automation folders are used  in the environment with X86 systems)
    1. From within the management console click on 'Settings'
    2. Browse to 'agents/plugins' > 'Deployment' > 'Windows (x86)'
    3. Right click on the 'Deployment Automation Folder for Windows (x86)  - Upgrade' policy and select 'Clone'.   The new policy will be named 'Copy of Deployment Automation Folder for Windows (x86)'
    4. Right click on the 'Copy of Deployment Automation Folder for Windows (x86)' policy and select 'Enable'
    5. Automation folders will be installed on client systems

 

 

Important:  Prior to 8.1 Post RU7 the PF needs to be installed directly to the NBS site servers (DO NOT USE WITH 8.1 POST RU7 AND 8.5 POINTFIXES)

NBS Site Servers
