Proxy Auto Configuration (PAC) files are JavaScript files that programmatically determine where a Web client should send HTTP/HTTPS requests. These files can be used to define an explicit proxy connection to the Web Security Service (WSS). They are also used to direct the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client Web Traffic Redirection (WTR) engine to the WSS. This document provides steps to verify the syntax of a PAC file before deploying it to clients.

Symantec Web Security Service (WSS) PAC File Management (PFMS) provides an online PAC file editor. The editor uses syntax highlighting and shows errors/warnings when the PAC file is not properly formatted.

Viewing a PAC file in the PFMS editor

1. Log in to the WSS Portal
2. Select Service from the drop-down menu, and click Mobility > PAC File Management
3. Do one of the following:
   • Click New File to create a new PAC file
   • Click Import to import a PAC file from your computer
   • Click on an existing PAC file
4. Correct any errors/warnings shown in the PAC file editor before saving the PAC file for use on clients

Note: The PFMS PAC file editor will not block users from importing or saving an improperly formatted PAC file. Make sure all syntax errors are resolved before saving a PFMS PAC file for use with WSS.
