Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) 7.9.0 & 7.9.1 is unable to update virus definitions when non-default mode HTTPS is being utilized by Liveupdate.
Last Updated July 03, 2019
By default Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) 7.9.0 & 7.9.1 leverage the HTTP protocol to communicate to the Liveupdate servers to download virus definitions. If your organization has configured SMSMSE to leverage HTTPS to communicate, virus definitions will fail to be updated. This has occurred due to a certificate exchange issue when SMSMSE communicates with the Liveupdate Servers. If SMSMSE 7.9.0 or 7.9.1 is not the installed version and HTTPS has not been configured to be used by Liveupdate this alert does not apply.
To determine if you are utilizing HTTPS for Liveupdate communication:
Navigate to <SMSMSE Install Path>\7.9\Server\Config
If the tool values are "blank" the default configuration of HTTP is being utilized and this alert does not apply.
If the tool has values specified and "Protocol" is HTTPS then this alert applies.
After applying the provided hotfix the issue is resolved.
To continue using HTTPS with Liveupdate hotfix 4243557 for Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange (SMSMSE) must be applied.
