Configuring health checks for VIP Enterprise Gateway through a load balancer. This feature is supported only from VIP Enterprise Gateway 9.7 onwards. This article describes using health checks for VIP Enterprise Gateway to monitor the Validation servers when configured using a NAS/VPN.
To discover the availability of Validation servers, a load balancer periodically checks whether the instances are healthy and available. These tests are called health checks.
Once you configure NAS, the load balancer periodically checks the health of each Validation server. It then sends an authentication RADIUS request to the Validation server with pre-defined values such as user name.
The Validation Server provides an Access-Reject response to the request. The Authentication Stack does not process any of these requests.
Once the response is received, Validation server does not write to logs in the INFO mode. By default, health check feature is enabled across all modes and templates of the Validation server.
SASMonitor is the default user name for doing a health check request.
