Event Console reduces the need to maintain separate tools to monitor computers, software, printers, and other devices. Event Console collects SNMP traps and other status messages and displays them in a single location. If the originator of the alert is a resource in the DB, all status messages that are received by Event Console are converted to a common format that links each received message to the affected resource in the CMDB. These formatted messages are called alerts.

Error message during install: Item update aborted: Event Console no longer installs the Topology Viewer into the SMS portal page as of 7.0 SP2
If you are upgrading over the 7.0 product, Topology is no longer available on the SMS portal page and you will need to wait for the next release of SMS to get it back. Further, an error message in the log stating that the ItemUpdate was aborted can be ignored. This error happens when SMS is not installed and has no effect on the product.
Execution of Create Resource task results into failure with an exception: The Create Resource Task is exposed to the end user so that they can run it directly
This causes an error because the task was not designed to be run directly. It is designed to be run from the Event Console Task Rules page. The idea is that a user can set up a Task Rule that will fire on the reception of an alert from an unknown device. The Rule will pass the host name or IP address to the Task which will then create a Notification Server Resource. If a user finds this task in the Jobs and Tasks UI and tries to run it directly, there will be no host name or IP passed to the task resulting in an error.
Actions button does not work: When drilling down on a groupview, the grid that loads will default to no row selected but the Actions menu is enabled
Clicking the actions menu with no selection in the grid will generate a "The data could not be loaded" error.
