Network Discovery, a free plug-in component for Notification Server, lets you discover all IP devices connected to your network. Network Discovery lets you find new network devices, identify previously-discovered network devices that are no longer found, and find network devices whose discovery properties have changed.

You can upgrade this product from 6x versions if you run the Symantec Installation Manager on a Notification Server 6x computer. To upgrade from the 6x version, you must first upgrade your 6x Notification Server to Symantec Management Platform 7.0 or later. Installation and Upgrade issues

If you schedule a Network Discovery task to run on a recurring basis, you won't be able to stop that task unless you either delete the task, or cancel the schedule by deleting the next scheduled occurrence of it in Manage > Jobs and Tasks.
Retry and Timeout values may not be used during connection
Each protocol lets you specify its own timeout and retry value. However, these values are typically only used during the execution of commands by the protocols, but not when attempting to connect to a target computer using these protocols. Because Network Discovery only attempts to connect to targets to determine availability, but does not execute any commands over the protocols used to connect, it should not be expected by the user that failed connection attempts would be retried. Failed connectiona are only retried during the next scheduled or manual discovery process.
Language strings not installed when updating from SP1 to SP3/SP4
This problem arises if the Network Discovery Language Pack is NOT installed when updating from SMP 7.0 SP1 to SMP 7.0 SP3/SP4. The problem is that string resource values have changed, but the database still contains the old values. Since the Language Pack is automatically installed with SMP 7.0 SP1, when SP3/SP4 is installed and the Language Pack is not updated, the old strings are still there with the incorrect number of parameters. SMP 7.0 SP2 has the correct strings, so upgrades from SMP 7.0 SP2 to SP3/SP4 work.
Uninstalling the Language Pack does not remove the strings from the database. The workaround is to update the database to contain the correct string values by installing the SMP 7.0 SP3/SP4 Network Discovery Language Pack.
