When you install or upgrade Symantec Protection Engine, LiveUpdate is enabled by default to run every two hours. You can modify this schedule, or you can run LiveUpdate manually.
When Symantec Protection Engine performs a LiveUpdate, the definitions that are downloaded are automatically selected as the active definitions. However, you can revert to the previous versions of the antivirus or URL definitions. The definition set that you choose remains active until the next LiveUpdate or Rapid Release update occurs, which then becomes the active definition set.
Symantec Protection Engine uses Symantec Java LiveUpdate technology. To run LiveUpdate, you must have the Java 2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 7.0 (update 51 or later) or JRE 8.0 (update 5 or later) installed.
32-bit JRE 8.0 is not available for Solaris SPARC platform.
Symantec Protection Engine supports only 32-bit versions of Java Runtime Environment. Symantec Protection Engine cannot be installed with 64-bit JRE versions.
