Symantec Mobility: Suite has created a public iOS Work Hub app that is available for your users to download on the Apple App Store. The public Work Hub requires no app development or configuration on your part. So it's easier to implement than the native, in-house iOS Work Hub, which requires certificates and profiles from Apple. It can be used with or without mobile device management (MDM).
As of the Symantec Mobility: Suite 5.3 release, the public Work Hub is the default iOS Work Hub. So new customers do not need to enable any options to use the public Work Hub. However, if you want to use the in-house iOS Work Hub, you must to enable and configure it.
When you invite users to download and install the Mobility Suite Work Hub, the link within the email invitation automatically directs them to the app on the Apple App Store. So you do not need to provide the Apple App Store link.
If you upgrade from a previous version of Mobility Suite, your in-house iOS Work Hub configuration and settings are maintained. But you can transition to the public iOS Work Hub.
The public Work Hub supports many of the same features as the in-house Work Hub. For example, users are prompted upon enrollment to indicate whether the device is personal. You can enable the option to show and customize the terms and conditions screen users view upon enrollment. And users can use Touch ID or a PIN to authenticate to the public Work Hub.
The following are some important considerations you should know about the public iOS Work Hub:
It is only supported on iOS devices.
Your organization can only use one type of Work Hub at a time: Either the in-house iOS Work Hub or the public iOS Work Hub.
Switching from one type of Work Hub to another creates undesired results and is discouraged.
The public iOS Work Hub has the following functionality limitations:
The public iOS Work Hub only supports app management.
Only Symantec Sealed apps can be used.
iTunes backup is not supported for the public Work Hub.
Device location tracking is not supported.
The ping command is not supported.
The contents of the public Work Hub do not include a Content, Category, or Update tabs.
Offline mode is not supported.
Apple restrictions limit the ability to brand the public Work Hub to the same extent as the in-house Work Hub. The Work Hub app icon and splash screen cannot be customized. However, you can customize the look of the app when it is open as you would in the in-house Work Hub.
