Disabling and enabling antivirus or firewall protection
Last Updated April 01, 2019
In Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition (SEP SBE) cloud, the default settings prevent users from overriding antivirus and firewall on their computer.
Disabling antivirus or firewall protection
Permission to disable either antivirus or Smart Firewall on endpoint computers must be explicitly granted within a custom policy. When that permission is granted, the endpoint user can disable antivirus or firewall for a specific period of time: 15 minutes, 1 hour, 5 hours, or until the system restarts.
The settings are automatically enabled after the selected time period or after the computer is restarted. The disable function only works on desktops & laptops.
To enable users to disable antivirus or firewall protection
In the SEP SBE Management Console, click the Policies page.
On the Policies page, on the left pane, under Services, select Endpoint Protection.
You can create a new policy or edit an existing policy.
To give permission to disable antivirus, under Computer Protection, select User can disable Antivirus.
To give permission to disable firewall protection, under Network Protection, select User can disable Firewall.
Under Groups, assign the policy to the appropriate groups.
Click Save & Apply. The policy is applied to the computers in the selected group or groups.
You can now perform the steps in the next procedure to disable antivirus and firewall protection.
To disable antivirus and firewall protection
In the SEP SBE agent, in the right column, expand Disable Antivirus or Disable Firewall.
Select a specific time period: 15 minutes, 1 hour, 5 hours, or until the system restarts.
The settings are automatically enabled after the selected time period or after the computer is restarted.
Enabling antivirus or firewall protection
If you have manually disabled antivirus or firewall protection, the settings are automatically enabled after the selected time period or if the computer is restarted. However, if you want to enable before the selected time period ends, you can do it from SEP SBE agent computer.
