About the Software Catalog window
The Software Catalog window appears within the Software view and acts as an extension of that view. The Software view is an enhanced console view that was added to the Manage menu in the Symantec Management Console. This window lets you review all installed software. You can also import, edit, add, and delete software and otherwise manage it from this single location.
You can open the Software Catalog window by navigating in Symantec Management Console to Manage > Software Catalog. You can also navigate to Manage > Software, right-click , and then click .
In the Software Catalog window you can perform many of the same actions that you perform in the Software view. In addition, you can move newly discovered or undefined software to the Managed software pane or move it to Unmanaged software pane in the Software Catalog window.
See About the Software view
All software on your network appears in one of the following panes:
Newly discovered/undefined software
When you run a software inventory, all software is discovered. Newly discovered or undefined software in this pane is reported through software inventory. It refers to all software that was found. This software is neither managed nor unmanaged until you choose what to do with it. You can move software to or from this pane.
Managed software products
This pane displays the software that you chose to manage or that matches predefined product filters. Predefined filters for managed Adobe and Microsoft products ensure that these products appear in the list of managed software products. You can move software to or from this pane.
Unmanaged software
This pane includes the software that you either do not need to manage or choose not to manage. You move software to this pane if the software is not licensed, or if you do not want to track or deliver it. You can move software to or from this pane.
See Software Catalog window
The Software Catalog window is unique in that it is the one location from which you can perform the following software management tasks:
Add a software component to a list of newly discovered or undefined software that you can choose to manage.
Add a software product directly to the Managed software products pane in the Software Catalog window.
Delete a software product. This action cancels the association between software components and the packages through which they were delivered. When you delete a software product, its components are listed again in the Newly discovered/undefined software pane.
This window also lets you edit software and import a software component or a software product. You populate the panes in the Software Catalog window with the software that is found in the environment rather than through inventory. Because the software is found in the environment, you can import software even if it is not found in inventory.
