The scanner cannot read a file either from the system's hard drive or from the in-memory file system.
The appliance reads either a list of scanning rules (or signatures), a message, or a part of the message in a file and encounters this error. This error does not provide the details of the file with the error. The errors that immediately precede or follow this error provides additional details to troubleshoot this issue.
Potential causes might be memory errors, running out of disk space, or hardware malfunctions.
This error is most likely the result of larger issues in your system. Examine all system information and scanner logs for issues with the hard disk and memory, including running out of disk space. If you find any issues, correct these issues.
If this error occurs on a regular basis even after you have eliminated the possible causes, contact Symantec customer support for more assistance.
