If you are using ESM to collect asset data, you can move to CCS to benefit from the new and improved data collection features offered by CCS 11.0.
You can upgrade the following ESM components while moving from an ESM only deployment to CCS 11.0:
Upgrade ESM Managers to CCS Managers
Upgrade the ESM utilities installed on the ESM Managers after upgrading the ESM Managers to CCS Managers
Upgrade ESM Agents to CCS Agents
Upgrade ESM Console to ESM Console 11.0
Upgrade ESM Manager for UNIX to ESM Manager 11.0 for UNIX
For reporting purposes, if you are using a Reporting database, and RDLs to connect to this database from ESM Managers, you can continue to use the Reporting database and RDLs after you upgrade to CCS Managers. You can also use the reporting and dashboard capabilities of CCS once you install CCS 11.0 in your environment.
Review the following information before you move from ESM to CCS:
Install the CCS Suite on a separate computer. The CCS Suite consists of the CCS Application Server and the CCS Manager. If you are installing the CCS Manager along with the CCS Application Server on the same computer, this CCS Manager can act as a Load Balancer.
Create a certificate for the CCS Manager using the Certificate Management Console. You will need a certificate while upgrading an ESM Manager to CCS Manager. Certificates are required for secured communication between the CCS Manager and the CCS Application Server.
Upgrade the ESM Console to ESM Console 11.0. ESM console is required to initiate policy runs for message based data collection. For information on upgrading the ESM Console, refer to the Symantec Enterprise Security Manager Installation Guide.
If you have not installed the CCS Manager along with the CCS Suite in Step 1, install one CCS Manager and assign that CCS Manager the role of a Load-Balancer.
Upgrade the ESM Manager to CCS Manager. CCS Manager continues to use the ESM Manager port. You can perform the upgrade either on-the-box or silently. While upgrading the ESM Manager, you can install CCS Application Server on the same computer the ESM Manager is installed on.
If your existing deployment contains an ESM Manager for UNIX, upgrade the ESM Manager for UNIX to ESM Manager 11.0 for UNIX. For information on upgrading the ESM Manager for UNIX, refer to the Symantec Enterprise Security Manager Installation Guide.
On the CCS Console, register the CCS Managers to the sites. Registering the CCS Manager establishes communication with the CCS Manager and the CCS Application Server.
After you complete the upgrade, check the health and status of all CCS components from the CCS Console. For information on checking the health and status of the CCS components, see the Refreshing health and status section in the Symantec™ Control Compliance Suite 11.0 User Guide.
