Question
How does a computer with an Notification Server Agent installed become a Wake-on-LAN (WOL) relay agent?

Environment

ITMS 8.x

Resolution

Answer
In order to become a Wake-on-LAN (WOL) Relay Agent for a particular subnet, the following criteria are used, in order:

  1. Candidacy: Order of priority to even become a Relay Agent is:
    1. SMP Server
    2. Package Server
    3. Computer with the Symantec Management Agent (Altiris Agent) installed.

If any of the above are met, then the following is added to it:

  1. When was the last configuration event?
  2. When was the last Basic Inventory sent?

All NICs reported by TCPIP inventory are eligible; However, if a machine has a NIC that uses either 0.0.0.0 as the default gateway, or does not have a gateway, it will be excluded from the list of candidate relay agents.
