The Distribution (a.k.a., code-signing) certificate is required if you want to use the native iOS Work Hub (mobile agent) or use Symantec Mobility: Suite to "wrap" (secure) your company's iOS applications.
The certificate is used to associate an iOS app with the owner of the certificate key (your company), establishing a trust relationship between your company, the app code, and the end user. Apple requires that iOS apps are signed in this manner, and wrapping an app "resets" the requirement to sign the app code.
An Apple Enterprise Developer account lets you use the single certificate with an unlimited number of apps. The certificate does have a limited validity time frame, however, and must be renewed prior to expiration to avoid interruption to your mobile device app management processes.
The workflow to add the Distribution (code-signing) certificate proceeds as follows:
Step 1- The person or department that manages your Apple Enterprise Account provides you the Distribution certificate. In cases where you require assistance procuring the certificate, a link is provided in Mobility Manager under Settings > Certificates > Apple/iOS Certificates.
Mobility Suite requires that the code-signing certificate/key file is in .P12 format. Files in .CER format must be converted to .P12. On a Mac computer, double-click to open the .CER file and then right-click the file and choose to export the file as .P12.
Step 2 - Once you have the certificate in-hand, upload it to Mobility Suite using the following procedure:
Uploading the Distribution certificate
In Mobility Manager, click Settings > Certificates > Apple/iOS Certificates.
In the right pane, scroll down to Code signing certificates.
Next to Upload New, click Browse, and browse for and select the code-signing certificate file.
Optionally, use the link provided in Mobility Manager to learn how to obtain the certificate.
In the upper right corner, click Upload.
There are other certificates related to iOS that you may also need to provide to Mobility Suite or Apple. For more information, see the article, Managing the iOS certificates used by Symantec Mobility: Suite at http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO83806.
