Use the following steps to manually install the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client firewall driver (teefer2.sys). This process is not necessary during a normal SEP client installation or upgrade.

Locate teefer.inf and teefer.sys

Windows driver files are installed using a driver install file (.inf). To install the SEP client firewall driver, locate the teefer.sys driver file and its corresponding install file, teefer.inf.

Use the following table to locate the teefer.sys and teefer.inf files on a computer where the SEP client is already installed:

Windows Version Bit-depth Location
Windows 8+/Windows Server 2012+ 64-bit C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\<version>\TeeferWin8
Windows 8+/Windows Server 2012+ 32-bit C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\<version>\TeeferWin8
Windows 7 64-bit C:\Program Files (x86)\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\<version>\Bin64\TeeferVista
Windows 7+/Server 2008 R2+ 32-bit C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection\<version>\Bin\TeeferVista

On computers where the SEP client is not already installed, teefer.sys and teefer.inf are located in the following locations in the SEP client installer files:

Windows Version Bit-depth Location
Windows 8+/Windows Server 2012+ 64-bit Program Files\Symantec\Name\Version\Bin64\TeeferWin8
Windows 8+/Windows Server 2012+ 32-bit Program Files\Symantec\Name\Version\Bin\TeeferWin8
Windows 7 64-bit Program Files\Symantec\Name\Version\Bin64\TeeferVista
Windows 7+/Server 2008 R2+ 32-bit Program Files\Symantec\Name\Version\Bin\TeeferVista

Install teefer.sys

  1. Open a command-prompt window as Administrator
  2. netcfg -l <path to teefer driver>\teefer.inf -c s -i symc_teefer2
