The attached reports identify computers that might warrant some extra attention by an Altiris Administrator - in their efforts to maintain high quality results from reports based on Inventory Solution data. For resolving descrepencies, see HOWTO93995, Symantec Management Platform Inventory Solution 7.x Troubleshooting Guide (link available below).
When the attached file is imported into the Altiris console the folder: Inventory Solution Audit Reports will be created, as well as eleven reports in the folder.
The following two reports can show computers that for which inventory data may be inaccurate; either because there probably is no inventory data or the data may be out of date.
- Unmanaged Computers; shows computers not marked as managed, because it does not have the Altiris agent installed.
Note: A computer is considered managed if IsManaged column in the vRM_Computer_Item view is not 0.
- Non-active Managed Computers; shows retired computers, so inventory is now frozen in time.
Note: a computer is considered "Active" if it does NOT have an Asset Status; or if it's Asset Status is "Active", as indicated in the ResourceAssociation table. And all other computers are considered non-active.
The following two reports for troubleshooting particular issues
- Inventory Plug-in Versions; shows computers and which version of the Inventory Plug-in they have installed, if any. Also show the installed OS version.
- Inventory License in last N days; shows computers that have been assigned an Inventory Solution, and when they license was assigned. Also show managed active computers that do not have an Inventory Solution license.
The following three reports identify computers based on how recently they last submitted certain inventory data; as per specific data classes.
- Basic Inventory in last N days; based on data class: Inv_AeX_AC_Client_Agent
- File Inventory in last N days; based on data class: Inv_Installed_File_Details
- Software Inventory in last N days; based on data class: Inv_InstalledSoftware
Note, there is no Hardware Inventory in last N days; because hardware inventory is spread across several data classes, and not all computers report all types of data; and the Administrator might choose to not collect all types of hardware data. Any of the above reports could be modified to report on any one of the Hardware inventory data classes.
The above reports include one or more of the following parameters:
- Computers, an SQL wild-card pattern to limit report by computer name
- cutoff in 'N' days ago, to indicate what is 'recent', default is 14 (days ago)
- show computers that never sent data, a checkbox indicating whether to show computers that have never submitted data for the data class of interest
- show computers that last sent data before the cutoff date, a checkbox indicating whether to show computers that submitted data for the data class of interest longer ago than the cutoff date
- show computers that last sent data after the cutoff date, a checkbox indicating whether to show computers that submitted data for the data class of interest more recently than the cutoff date
The following four reports list managed computers and the first and last dates of inventory data collected as per specific data classes; no parameters.
- Last Basic Inventory Date; based on data class: Inv_AeX_AC_Client_Agent
- Last File Inventory Date; based on data class: Inv_Installed_File_Details
- Last Hardware Inventory Date; based on data class: Inv_HW_Baseboard (if data class is selected for inventory)
- Last Software Inventory Date; based on data class: Inv_InstalledSoftware
