Symantec Mobility: Suite Mobile Security: User experience
Last Updated November 09, 2015
Symantec Mobility: Suite mobile security is managed on Android devices through the Norton Mobile Security (NMS) app for Android. Some NMS features are provided independently of Mobility Suite, such as malware protection. However, devices with NMS and enrolled with Mobility Suite are capable of being policed with the Mobility Suite mobile security functions.
Device policies determine the actions (if any) a user must take to remediate a non-compliance status. For example, malware threats cannot be removed by the Mobility Suite admin, and must be removed by the device user. If for example, a policy forbids email retrieval from an infected device, then the malware threat must be removed from the device before email access is restored.
Norton Mobile Security installation and enrollment
To begin using the mobile security features of Mobility Suite, the device user either installs Norton Mobile Security and enrolls with Mobility Suite, or if already present on the Android device, proceeds with enrollment. The two scenarios go as follows:
The user does one of the following, depending on which method you ask them to use:
From an enrollment email invitation: If Norton Mobile Security is not on the device, an Install button is displayed. If Norton Mobile Security is already on the device, an Enroll button appears. In either case, the user taps the button to proceed.
From the Work Hub: Users tap Apps and then tap the Norton Mobile Security icon. If Norton Mobile Security is not on the device, an Install button is displayed. If Norton Mobile Security is already on the device, an Enroll button is displayed. The user taps the button and proceeds with the associated workflow, Install or Enroll.
Users that download the app install it and accept the license agreement, launch the app, and are prompted to enroll. If Norton Mobile Security is already on the device, the user is prompted to accept the license agreement and then to enroll.
Removing the threats identified by Norton Mobile Security
Norton Mobile Security alerts device users when known threats are identified. Users tap the threat notification to open Norton Mobile Security and go to the Anti-Malware tab. A Trash icon appears next to infected apps. The user taps the icon and then OK to remove the app (and associated threat).
Threats cannot be removed from devices remotely by the Mobility Suite administrator.
