What log files are used for troubleshooting Ghost Solution Suite

Resolution

The following log files are used to troubleshoot Ghost Solution related problems:

 

PROCESS – LOG FILE

LOCATION

Altiris Agent (NSclient / Notification Server) - a.log

C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Symantec Agent\Logs

ADLagent - adl*.log

 

Automation Folders install Log

Root of C: on endpoints

  • inst.log

Automation Partition Install Log (Windows Installer Package) - bwinst.log

 

axinstall.log with Trace.log

Root of C: on the DS Server

Boot Disk Creator - bootwiz.log

Used when troubleshooting Driver injection problems or WinPE / Linux preboot building problems.

Same directory as bootwiz.exe or specified location.

Bootworks (DOS automation) - bootwork.log

 

Console (Win32 express.exe) - express.log

DS Server, root of drive that has the eXpress share

Engine - axengine.log

On the DS Server, in the eXpress share location. To make changes, see Options in Control Panel for Altiris Deployment Server

DAgent - dagent.log

On client computer in C:\Program Files\DAgentLogs or as identified in the Admin Properties under Change Agent Settings.

Data Manager Install Log - datamanager.InstallLog

Used to log any errors with the install of the Data Manager service during the install of Deployment Server

 

Database Install - Dbinstaller.log

Used when there are database related errors during the install of the product or when manually running dbinstaller.exe

Deployment server directory (same location as axengine.exe) 

DB Management - dbmanager.log

Deployment server directory 

Deployment Solution Install - DSInstall.log

C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Temp\1 or %AppData%

Deploy Anywhere 

<server share>/DA_Logs_(Time stamp).txt

DS for Dell - Dell\alogs\5xxxxxxx.log

The alogs for DS for Dell log all details of any DS for Dell related jobs as long as the job is being run within the DS for Dell automation environments.

 

Firm - firm.log

 Same directory as firm.exe

Linux Automation Startup - boot.log

 Linux automation

PC Transplant - error.log

 Specified in command line parameter

PXE Config Helper - PxeLog_CfgHelper.txt

Wherever PXE Log location is set to in PXEManager.ini.

This can be set by entering the location in the Data Logs tab of the PXE Configuration Utility.

Can also be set by editing the location in the PXEManager.ini file, the LogFileBasePath= “” variable.

PXE DS Traffic - PxeLog_DSTraffic.txt

Wherever PXE Log location is set to in PXEManager.ini.

This can be set by entering the location in the Data Logs tab of the PXE Configuration Utility.

Can also be set by editing the location in the PXEManager.ini file, the LogFileBasePath= “” variable.

 

PXE IP Filter - PXELog_IPFilter.txt

Wherever PXE Log location is set to in PXEManager.ini.

This can be set by entering the location in the Data Logs tab of the PXE Configuration Utility.

Can also be set by editing the location in the PXEManager.ini file, the LogFileBasePath= “” variable.

 

PXE Mac Filter - PXELog_MACFilter.txt

Wherever PXE Log location is set to in PXEManager.ini.

This can be set by entering the location in the Data Logs tab of the PXE Configuration Utility.

Can also be set by editing the location in the PXEManager.ini file, the LogFileBasePath= “” variable.

 

PXE Manager - PxeLog_Manager.txt

Wherever PXE Log location is set to in PXEManager.ini.

This can be set by entering the location in the Data Logs tab of the PXE Configuration Utility.

Can also be set by editing the location in the PXEManager.ini file, the LogFileBasePath= “” variable.

 

PXE MTFTP Service - PxeLog_Mtftp.txt

Wherever PXE Log location is set to in PXEManager.ini.

This can be set by entering the location in the Data Logs tab of the PXE Configuration Utility.

Can also be set by editing the location in the PXEManager.ini file, the LogFileBasePath= “” variable.

 

PXE Packet Parser - PxeLog_Parser.txt

Wherever PXE Log location is set to in PXEManager.ini.

This can be set by entering the location in the Data Logs tab of the PXE Configuration Utility.

Can also be set by editing the location in the PXEManager.ini file, the LogFileBasePath= “” variable.

 

PXE Server - PxeLog_Server.txt

Wherever PXE Log location is set to in PXEManager.ini.

This can be set by entering the location in the Data Logs tab of the PXE Configuration Utility.

Can also be set by editing the location in the PXEManager.ini file, the LogFileBasePath= “” variable.

 

PXE UUID Filter - PXELog_UUIDFilter.txt

Wherever PXE Log location is set to in PXEManager.ini.

This can be set by entering the location in the Data Logs tab of the PXE Configuration Utility.

Can also be set by editing the location in the PXEManager.ini file, the LogFileBasePath= “” variable.

  • Installed at a non-default location

Linux Automation Log Files support may ask to collect

ip -a > \tmp\ip.log

mount > \tmp\mount.log

dmesg > \tmp\dmesg.log

 

 

* - These log files are not from Symantec based products, but are used to troubleshoot Deployment Server related problems.
